Hubs I do not want to finish reading.

I know people who love to write need to put their ideas down on paper or on "laptop" so they will not lose the flow of their creative moments. That being said, I find people do not bother to go back and edit their Hubs to insure they use the correct words and/or sentence structures to make them readable. Enter a Hub about a movie I was interested in reading about on a recent Hub. The author had me initially intrigued until he told me the character was "week". This is not a typo, this is a genuine misuse of the word "weak". The author lost all credibility with me and I exited reading the Hub. Credibility? Zero.

I am not a snob, although I do teach writing and literature at the college level. I make mistakes as much as the next person, but I am pretty picky about word usage in writing. I once had a student who wrote a paper entitled: Brains VS Bronze. We had heretofore discussed the idea of brawn as the opposite of brain power, but he thought it was bronze we were talking about. Again, I was disappointed that this type of thing continues to permeate writing at any kind of level.

I see this misuse of words in almost daily living, ALL the time actually. In the words: there, their, they're we have but a few choices, depending on what you are trying to say. People will write that they "to" wish they could come along. No, it is they "too". Do people really not care? I think the more we dumb ourselves down, the more idiotic we look to other people. Why read something that so obviously is incorrectly written, especially when written by an adult who professes to know how to "write"or is it "right" or "rite"???

Here is another one. Extreme, written as "extreem", this time the spell check could have found the error. But, the person writing it did not even seem to care to utilize it. We have it at our fingertips and we still think we do not need to check our work.

Writing good Hubs is not just about having a good topic, writing something new and unusual, or even detailing something, it is about writing something impeccably well. This means using words correctly, spell checking them, rereading them and checking for errors.

I cannot tell you how many Hubs I would read here if people were careful about how they wrote. I could not be bothered with "bad writing" but obviously EL James's readers give no thought to it. She and Stephanie Meyer write atrociously, but they are picked up and read by millions. No wonder people do not know how to write. If they use these writers as models for their own writing, they will continue to be overlooked by people interested in reading quality Hubs that are intelligently written.

I am not trying to discourage people from writing! I am trying to discourage people from writing like they are in the fifth grade again.
